When
I think about our human bodies,
I
would say that, for most part,
we
tend to take care of them.
What
I'm saying is that if we're hungry, we eat; if thirsty,
we drink; and if tired, we rest. We accommodate
the desires of our body and tend to do these things without
much thought because they're a natural part of having
a body.
With
respect to our relationship with Christ, we are referred
to as “His” Body. The Scriptures identify Him as
the Head of such. Colossians 1:18 puts it this way, “Christ
is also the head of the church, which is his body.”
Now,
if we're Christ's body, then we ought to be responding
to the directions that the Head gives to us. And
like the human body, we should come to the place where
caring for the Lord's body is as natural as taking our
next breath.
So,
this begs the question...
What
is Jesus asking of us?
What
is it that He wants of His body?
And
are we prepared to do what it is that He asks?
Here's
the challenge: inasmuch as we are committed to Christ,
we should also, in like manner, be committed to His body,
which is the church. As members of Christ, we can't
see the Kingdom of God come unless we're working together.
It takes a committed effort on the part of all of us to
remain connected to Christ and to His body. The
body, when taken care of, is able to accomplish all that
the head requests of it. If we care for one another,
we will all be equipped to do that which the Lord desires.
But as mentioned, this requires our commitment,
not only to Jesus, but also to one another.
Our
commitment to one another will declare Christ to a dying
world. And without question, our world
needs Him! Will we rise to the challenge
and let the world see that our commitment to Christ is
real and lived out in our commitment to His body?
Let's be that church!
